University School offers weekly art classes with faculty member Jaime Zollars. These classes are designed for immersion in multiple media and forms of expression, and they allow for each student to develop and gain confidence in his or her artistic ability. Students also learn and create art projects related to their studies in their classes, especially Global Languages and Humanities.

We also engage in collaborative opportunities in the arts with community partners like Redux Contemporary Art Studio, ArtBuzz Kids, The Artists’ Loft, and other arts organizations. In addition, USL regularly hosts cultural performance groups and shares these events with the greater community.

Several of our Learning Outside the Classroom experiences are also arts-focused. University School students attend 3-4 cultural performances each year at the Gaillard Center, Dock Street Theatre, and more. What distinguishes USL is how students are taught to be grateful, courteous, empathetic, and curious, and this behavior is on display in these public forums.

As noted by Sterling DeVries, Director of Education at the Gaillard Center: “Your kids blow away our staff here! Out of the thousands of students that come through, University School stands out. Your children are respectful, well-spoken, kind, and leave a wonderful impression.”
